Can you avoid hospital infections?

Published by Simon at 6:09 am under health

Be a proactive patient! A recent Mayo Clinic post listed tips for preventing hospital infection. Discussion points include selecting your surgeon and asking about pre-surgery antibiotics. Two of the points they mention are suggestions that many articles discuss but that most of us are reluctant to act upon:

  1. Ask your healthcare professionals to wash their hands if you don’t see them either washing their hands or using an antibacterial cleanser.
  2. If anyone is coughing near you, insist that they wear a mask.

The Washington Post has an additional list of tips to help prevent hospital-acquired infections. This article states that if you’re planning a Caesarian Section, the same tips should be followed.
